Consuming kombucha might potentially lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, according to a new study with “promising” preliminary results.
“Much more research needs to be done, but it’s looking pretty promising so far,” said study co-author Dr. Dan Merenstein from Georgetown University in the United States. Daily Mail mardi.
Doctors have started a “clinical trial” by giving kombucha, a fermented and slightly acidic drink, to 12 people with diabetes. The latter had to consume at least one bottle each day.
After four weeks, all participants would have noticed a significant drop in their blood sugar levels in their bodies, according to the English-language media.
At the same time, some also had to drink a drink with a similar taste and appearance, without knowing that it was another drink. No drop in blood sugar levels would have been observed in their case.
This is the first study to focus on the effects of kombucha on people with diabetes, the researcher said.
At the time of this writing, the official results of the clinical trial only included seven people, which is not enough for specialists.
