Kokkalis is aware of difficulties

The tours of the new party “Kosmos” led by MEP Petros Kokkalis have started and one of its first stops was Patras.

Yesterday, Mr. Kokkalis gave a press conference and then he was at the offices of “P”, where he met with the publisher and businessman Theodoros Louloudis and his associates. Mr. Kokkalis was accompanied by the former mayor of Nikias-Rentis and head of the opposition in the Attica Region, George Ioakeimidis.

Petros Kokkalis showed during his presence in Patras that he is aware of the difficult project he has started. “We want to contribute to the creation of a green, modern, competitive and sufficient political force in the Greek political dialogue. Let’s bring what is missing by focusing on the scientific data around climate change, social cohesion and the rule of law,” Mr. Kokkalis initially emphasized.

Speaking regarding the political stakes of the June elections, the MEP from the Green group used as a persuasive argument that around 75% of the laws in force in the country are voted on first in the European Parliament, while also pointing out: “In these elections there is a big rise of a dogmatic-populist wave which is also anti-European. There is a danger that a less Europe will be “created” for us. Greece collects approximately 10 billion euros from the social budget per year. Well, we want more and better Europe to deal with the multiple crises, as we have seen in pandemic and war. Young people in particular must stand as a bulwark.”

It is a fact that until today the Green parties had no place in Greece. His opinion on the matter is as follows: “Politics depends on risks. We need to help people understand what is happening. In Greece, the world has understood how precarious our lives are from extreme phenomena. The problem is that there is no party in Greece that politically expresses solutions that are implemented in Europe. The parties we have today embellish their speech, but they cannot perceive as a whole how to deal with it. That’s the risk and the challenge. We are here to stay and we intend to create a solid modern green party. We also want to participate in the national and local elections of Greece. The Greens participate in 7 governments and over 500 local governments pan-European.”

In closing, the MEP noted that Greece is a “climate crisis hotspot”, which burdens the pocket and the health of Greeks. His goal is to convince that “Kosmos” can provide real solutions that are already implemented in many European countries. However, he feels quite uneasy. “Natural disasters will happen once more. It’s like we’re on the train going to Tempe. We have to show that we are defenseless, but not in terms of protest, but with governance proposals around these needs”.
