The Department of Human Rights and Humanitarian Actions of the Society for Social Action and Culture Koino_Topia www.koinotopia.gr with the support of Citizens in Action is proceeding with a new effort to collect and promote clothing and other essential items for the prisoners of the Agios Stefanos Achaia detention center located in the industrial area of Patras.
This effort, which aims to cover the basic needs of people currently serving their sentence for delinquent behavior, is a contribution of the Civil Society to the state’s responsibility for basic decent living conditions in prisons.
Items collected include the following:
Clothing and footwear: Jerseys or t-shirts, sizes M, L, XL Men’s Underwear, sizes M, L, XL or No. 3,4,5 (preferably not white), Overalls, and Sweatshirts sizes M, L, XL, Blouses, Socks. Finally sheets, pillowcases and face towels. The aforementioned items should either be new (at least the underwear), or in good condition.
Cleaning and Personal Hygiene Items: Shampoo, Shower Gel, Toothpastes, Toothbrushes, Detergent for washing clothes by hand, Toilet paper, all in economical packages.
You can of course enhance the action with an amount (even a few euros). Koino_Topia undertakes with this money to buy items from the above categories at very low prices (wholesale-stock that it has found) and make them available.
The promotion and distribution of the items will be done, as at other times, in collaboration with the Prison Department of Social Welfare of the Hellenic Red Cross, as it has the necessary expertise and certification for interventions in detention facilities.
