CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari gave his response regarding Indonesia’s potential to host the 2036 Olympics.

This follows the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo, who earlier this month said that Indonesia had received an offer to host the 2036 Olympics. Jakarta and Bali are options for the location for the event.

“When we were in Paris, Indonesia was offered to (host the Olympics) in 2036. We participated in the 2034 bidding, while for (in) 2036 Qatar (also) participated in the bidding, but it was a dialogue,” said Oktohari, when met in Jakarta, Monday.

However, Okto said that the final decision would still have to wait some time, considering that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would undergo a change in management.

“This March there will be a change (in the management of) the IOC, so (we’ll see) whether the system (selecting Olympic hosts) will still be the same, or different,” said Okto.

Furthermore, Okto also confirmed the Menpora’s statement earlier last month which said that Indonesia’s offer to host the 2036 Olympics came during the 2024 Paris Olympics. At that time, President-elect Prabowo Subianto met IOC President Thomas Bach.

“At that meeting there were Pak Prabowo, Pak Dito, Pak Erick (Thohir) and me,” said Okto.

Okto also assessed that Indonesia has the opportunity to host the Youth Olympic Games, which are planned to be held in
2030.

Currently, the host for the 2030 edition of the Youth Olympic Games has not yet been determined.

“At that time, I said together with the Minister of Youth and Sports and the elected president, Pak Prabowo, that in 2030 there will be the Youth Olympic Games. There are (options) that are closer,” said Okto.

“Moreover, Mas Minister (Dito) used to be CdM (Chef de
Mission) Youth Olympic Games (for Indonesia), so, he knows
What are the dynamics like, so I immediately agreed too. Before 2036, we
“focus first on 2030,” he added. (Ant/Z-6)
