puremedias.com : What was your reaction when you understood during the counting that the hour of your elimination had come?
Gilles : I understand that I will be eliminated 24 hours before the council. After my victory in the archery event, when I made the decision to share the reward with Nicolas (a telephone conversation with relatives and a hearty meal, editor’s note), I felt that he happened something that will put an end to my adventure.
That’s to say ?
The extraordinary reward of the trip for two to the Philippines (also won by Gilles at the end of the comfort test, editor’s note) has worked a lot on people’s minds. Two adventurers made me understand that having won a trip was already a victory.
Other signals were worrying?
After the immunity test, Tania’s face changed. Julie no longer even left the cabin for fear of talking to me. I worried regarding that with Nicolas to warn him that something was going on. I thought to myself that either Tania and Julie have a necklace or something is going on once morest me…
What did your allies say to you when you told them regarding your doubts?
Nicolas reassured me by saying: “Don’t worry, they can’t do that to you otherwise they won’t be able to look at themselves in a mirror”. And I answer him: “You know Nico, there is no mirror on this beach”.
Can we attribute this disillusionment to an overconfidence of your allies?
I think at that time, I paid the price for an overconfidence from the quartet of boys. And then, the TV does not show it but I know that Quentin, who did not digest the fact that I did not choose it, criticizes me on the camp.

Why did you invite Nicolas rather than Quentin to share your reward following your victory in the comfort test?
Whenever I had the chance to protect Quentin, I did so, including bequeathing the talisman to him at a council. At this point, we must not forget that he has just won a reward with Frédéric during the previous comfort test in which Nico had nevertheless finished second. And then, we must also remember that when Quentin returns from the ambassadors, he very nearly puts our alliance of boys at fault. It’s crazy but at that time, at the time, I kinda had the feeling that Quentin stole from me Grace (he says, his voice breaking with emotion). If he had eliminated a red (Anne Sophie or Esteban, editor’s note), I might have spoken to Grace who took me by surprise. I lost Grace to the kids so I thought it was a good time for Nico to talk to his people. I do not regret my choice at all, although it is terrible to make.
At the end of the advice, Clémence, Julie and Laura reproach you all three for a promise that you would have made them, namely to take them to the posts. What is your version of the facts?
Clémence did not understand the game at that time. In fact, Clémence, my favorite from the start, believes that Frédéric and Quentin are with her. Two days before my elimination, I therefore went to see her to tell her that I cared regarding her and to warn her, without telling her clearly, that this was not the case for Frédéric and Quentin. When we shook hands, I hoped she understood that I was more reliable than Frédéric and Quentin who have been hiding since the start. But no, she didn’t hear it!
Are you angry with him for not having understood your message?
No, the one I really resent is Julie! She asked me every day: ‘Gilles, what does Nico think of me?’ She was in fear of being eliminated and wanted me to reassure her regarding the solidity of our agreement. I told her that I thought that Nico, sensitive to the values of sport, wanted to go far with her and that it would be cool if the we go far together.

Listening to you, one has the impression that you were not totally in control of your decisions in this alliance of boys…
Frédéric, Quentin and Nico are very beautiful encounters in life. But I feel a bit left out. Right from the start, I said to myself: “Do I recognize myself in an alliance with a commercial director?” And I answered myself that no, that I did not recognize myself. I do not clear myself for all that, I was not completely off the alliance but I was a follower on several occasions like when I voted (at the previous council, editor’s note) once morest Héléna when I would have rather opted for Esteban…
What stopped you?
I wanted to give the necklace to Helena. So I asked Nico if I might do it. He replied that I absolutely must not do that… If I did something in which I recognized myself, I would have been put out of play by the quartet. I was next toHelena during the council, my heart went out of my polo shirt at that moment. I just wanted to give her the necklace. But was it in my interest to save Helena and see Tania (the one who collected the most ballots behind Héléna)? I was lost.

Let’s end on a more positive note. You can boast of a great record: you have won four individual victories. You marked the adventure by being the one who recomposed the teams. You were also the first in possession of the talisman, thanks to which you eliminated Rudy… What was your most striking memory in this adventure?
I don’t know the feeling of climbing the poles at “Koh-Lanta“but my most striking memory remains that five-minute phone call that propels you 10,000 kilometers away. Psychologically, when everything is hard, the phone call is the best of times (he is moved).
You will be able to propel yourself once more 10,000 kilometers from the metropolis thanks to the trip you won for two people. When is the return to the island planned?
I was disappointed that the editing did not show it but I announced on the island that I was offering the trip to my parents. At the casting, to the question “What would you do with the 100,000 euros?”, I answered that I would offer a cruise to my parents who are just retiring. For my part, I am in debt, I do not really have a project. Fate made me win a trip to the camp (smile).
