Ko Jin-young (28, Solaire) broke the record for the longest in women’s golf world rankings, surpassing the “legend” Lorena Ochoa (Mexico).

In the Rolex Women’s Golf World Rankings announced on the 27th (Korean time), Ko Jin-young maintained her first place in the world rankings following last week with a ranking point of 8.31 points.

Ko Jin-young, who has kept the top spot for the last 6 weeks in a row, has been ranked number 1 in the world rankings for a cumulative 159 weeks. She managed to break her last week following tying Ochoa’s record.

Ochoa is a ‘legend’ who was active in the mid-to-late 2000s and raged in women’s golf. From 2002 to 2010, she was active for only 8 years, but she swept a whopping 27 wins, including 2 majors.

Ochoa is the second to rank first in the women’s golf world rankings created in 2006, following ‘Empress’ Annika Sorenstam (Sweden). He held the number one spot for 158 consecutive weeks from April 2007 to May 2010.

In the case of Ko Jin-young, it is not like Ochoa that she won first place for 158 weeks.

He first rose to No. 1 in April 2019 and held No. 1 for 12 weeks until June of that year. After that, he gave the No. 1 position to Seong-Hyun Park (30, Mediheal) for a while, then rose to No. 1 once more in July of the same year and held No. 1 once more until July 2021. 1 for 100 consecutive weeks.

Afterwards, Koh Jin-young, who competed with Nellie Corda (USA) and added a record of 1st place for 41 weeks, came down from the 1st place in the second half of last year due to a lot of absences due to a wrist injury. She was close to Ochoa’s record of 153 weeks at the top of the world rankings.

Then Jinyoung Ko, who won the HSBC Champions in March this year and the Founders Cup in May, rose to the top once more and eventually succeeded in surpassing Ochoa’s record.

Ko Jin-young, who tied for 20th at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the second major event of the LPGA tour season, raised her ranking point by 0.02 points from last week.

The gap with No. 2 Nellie Corda (USA, 7.45 points) widened by 0.86 points. For the time being, Ko Jin-young is likely to defend her No. 1 spot.

Ko Jin-young said, “It’s an honor to be mentioned by many people on the same line as Lorena Ochoa.” It is a great honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with Lorena,” she said.

Following Koh Jin-young and Coda, Lydia Ko (New Zealand) and Lilia Boo (USA) maintained third and fourth places.

Yin Luoning (China), who won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, jumped 20 steps to 5th place at once.

Lee Min-ji (Australia), Ataya Titikkun (Thailand), and Kim Hyo-joo (28, Lotte) were pushed one step each to 6th to 8th, and Lin Xiyu (China) rose 5 steps to 9th. Leona Maguire (Ireland) is 10th, up two places.

Park Min-ji (25, NH Investment & Securities), the ‘strongest in Korea’, who achieved two wins in the season at the Korea Women’s Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour BC Card and Hankyung Ladies Cup last week, marked 25th, up one notch from last week.
