Knife attack on the Champs-Élysées in Paris leaves one police officer injured

On Thursday, a French police officer was injured after being the victim of a knife attack on the Champs-Élysées avenue in Paris. However, other police officers managed to “neutralize” the attacker.

“The perpetrator was immediately neutralised by police officers,” Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on his X account.

According to BFM television, the incident occurred when a group of police officers were responding to a call from private security guards at a Louis Vuitton store in that area of ​​Paris. During the intervention, one police officer was injured in the attack.

When the officers arrived, the man fled with a knife in his hand. However, he turned around and attacked the first police officer who was chasing him, wounding him in the ear.

According to public broadcaster France 2, another police officer used his firearm against the man who had attacked his colleague with the knife. As a result, the attacker was seriously injured.

The incident occurred on the same day that a security perimeter was put in place around the nearby Seine River in preparation for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics scheduled for July 26.

The entire centre of Paris near the River Seine is fenced off and access is restricted. Numerous security agents are monitoring the entire area and the busiest spots in the surrounding area in preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games.
