Knife attack in northern England: Two children killed and six children critically injured

The condition is critical for six children and two adults, says Chief Constable Serena Kennedy of Merseyside Police. In addition, three children have injuries that are not considered as serious.

– We believe the two adults were injured when they bravely tried to protect the children who were attacked, says Kennedy in a statement, writes Sky News.

Furthermore, she says that the police officers who arrived at the scene were shocked when they saw the injured children.

17-year-old arrested

The victims were attending an event for children aged six to eleven when the perpetrator arrived and attacked them with a knife on Monday morning.

At the event, the children were to learn yoga and dance inspired by Taylor Swift. They were also going to make bracelets, according to an ad posted online.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for the knife attack. Kennedy says the boy, who is from Cardiff, is suspected of murder and attempted murder. He lives in an area on the outskirts of Southport.

The police maintain that they do not believe the attack is terror-related. The motive behind the attack is not yet known.

The king and the prime minister express their condolences

The report of the stabbing reached the police at 11.50 local time. The arrested boy was taken to the police station, and a knife was seized.

In a statement on Monday evening, Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences to the relatives and the local community.

– It is almost impossible to imagine the grief and trauma they are going through, he says in a statement.

King Charles and Queen Camilla also express their condolences. In a statement, the royal couple say they express their deepest condolences to the families and relatives of those who have lost their lives.

– Covered in blood

The owner of a car repair shop near the stabbing says he himself saw injured children.

– This is more like a scene from the USA, it doesn’t look like sunny Southport, says Colin Parry.

It was a colleague who alerted Parry to what was going on and told him to hurry out. To Sky News, Parry says he saw his colleague carrying a girl covered in blood.

– My colleague was covered in blood while he looked after her and tried to keep her alive, he says.

A woman and her daughter, who also live nearby, say they heard eerie screams.

– No one can understand it. All the mothers in the area have consulted each other. I’m sure we all know someone from that poor group, says Joanne to Sky News.
