In Kloten he is a figurehead, a legend, a hero. Felix Hollenstein’s (57) face is waving on a flag under the roof at Schluefweg. He won four championship titles with EHC Kloten from 1993 to 1996, played over 650 games in the national team A, was head coach and head of sport.
On Wednesday evening, Hollenstein will be in front of the microphone at “MySports”. In the second third break. An emotional affair, as Hollenstein has had to endure a lot in the last three years. In November 2019 he was diagnosed with a vertebral fracture. After further tests, the brutal diagnosis follows: bone marrow cancer.

Chemotherapy, radiation and stem cell transplantation followed. In the meantime, however, the Kloten legend is cancer-free. And is back in action for his heart club. No longer as head of sport, but as senior advisor, Hollenstein supports Kloten in an advisory capacity.
“I’m doing very well given the circumstances,” he said on Wednesday evening. And laughs. Of course also because he knows that following four years in the second division his club is regarding to be promoted once more. «Kloten is better than Olten, also in terms of the width of the team. I don’t want to sound arrogant, but this club belongs in the National League.”

The recipe for success of the Zurich lowlands? Hollenstein: «We have a good coaching staff and a good team. I have a lot of contact with the two coaches, I watch the training sessions. Discuss with them how, where, what. We have a good relationship.”
