Klopp rejects US coaching offer

USA – Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rejected an offer from the US Soccer Federation to take over as national team coach, replacing Gregg Berhalter, who was recently fired.

The American newspaper “The Athletic” reported yesterday, Thursday, that initial contact was made with Klopp regarding the possibility of leading the US national football team, but the latter confirmed that he wanted to take a break.

The report added: “Despite this, there is still interest from the US Soccer Federation in making the 57-year-old coach the team’s technical director.”

Berhalter was dismissed on Wednesday, following the early elimination of the US team from the Copa America, which it is currently hosting on its home soil, following it was eliminated early from the competition in the group stage.

The United States is preparing to host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, and is seeking to rebuild its team in the upcoming tournament to present a different image from the one it showed in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar following exiting in the round of 16.

Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool at the end of last season following 9 successful seasons at Anfield, during which he won 8 titles, as he preferred to take a break from training at least in the new season.

Under his leadership, Liverpool won their first English Premier League title in 30 years and won their first Champions League since 2005 when they beat Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.
