The Bielefeld disco “Badewanne” has long been closed – but it retains its place in music history. “I pulled a new parting while jumping on stage,” said Klaus Meine once in an interview. The singer of the Scorpions has a scar since that jump once morest a ceiling beam – and since then has worn a hat that has become the trademark of the front man of one of the most successful rock bands in the world. On Thursday, Meine will be 75 years old.

He took back a farewell to the stage announced in 2010 long ago. There is no longer any talk of the end of his career, he is currently on a European tour with his band. “What we do and see on every tour keeps us young,” the singer recently told the Berlin daily “BZ”.

Of course, tours have become more strenuous with age, but they are not a burden for him and his bandmates, Meine emphasized. “The energy that we give off along the way comes back a thousandfold.” This motivates you once more and once more. And he pointedly referred to the rock stars of the Rolling Stones, who are also tirelessly on the move. They are “a bit older”.

Meine has been on stage with his Scorpions for more than 50 years – worldwide. Metallica, for example, felt influenced by the Scorpions and Bon Jovi once started out as the support act for the most successful German music group of all time, with over a hundred million records sold.

Klaus Meine was born on May 25, 1948 in Hanover. After an apprenticeship as a decorator, jobs as a driver and first engagements in bands, Meine joined the Scorpions in 1969. With guitarist Rudolf Schenker, he quickly became the head of the band. The Scorpions became absolute stars in the USA, where they produced several successful albums and thus laid the actual foundation for their worldwide fame. This also includes their best-selling album “Crazy World” from 1990. On it, Meine, who was only able to save his career in the early 80s through operations on his vocal cords, also sings the most commercially successful Scorpions song “Wind of Change”.

The rock ballad was released once more as a single in early 1991 and advanced to a hymn of peaceful reunification at the end of the Cold War and German reunification, storming the international charts. And its popularity is unbroken, as statistics from the YouTube internet platform show: the official music video for “Wind of Change” surpassed the magic threshold of one billion views in February.
