Provincial Governor Christopher Drexler (ÖVP) praised the actor in Pürgg as an artist who knew how to educate, teach and entertain a global audience “through voice, body and intellectual penetration of his material”, but also through biography and origin. As one of the few Austrians who was also able to make a name for himself in Hollywood, Brandauer celebrated great success in films such as “Never Say Never” or “Jenseits von Afrika”. He underpinned his reputation as a great character actor with stage performances as Everyman, Hamlet or Nathan the Wise. Brandauer has been a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater in Vienna since 1972.

“Klaus Maria Brandauer was not only born in Bad Aussee, he has always remained connected to this homeland that he was born to. As a permanent returnee to Styria, as a mixture of province and world, he once described himself, guided by modesty and love of his homeland.” , explained Drexler.
