The Klaipėda University statement reads: “Always sympathetic, always willing to help, always finding the warmest and most appropriate word for everyone – she will remain like that in all of our memories.
Jūratė’s passion for languages, ability to ignite the desire to learn will remain in the memories of students and colleagues not only in Lithuania, but also abroad. The Center for Lithuanian Studies and Languages, which she founded and nurtured for almost two decades, and the summer and winter academies of Lithuanian language and culture that are successfully operating in it, make the name of the university and the faculty famous in the Lithuanian communities of various countries.
With quiet and patient work, Jūratė was able to mobilize her colleagues to implement and successfully develop the ideas of the Center’s activities, at the same time combining it with her various activities outside of the role of manager.
After being a guest on earth, she left on her eternal path, wishing us, who remain here, to share kindness, to spread the light of sacrifice and forgiveness. We share the pain and express our deepest condolences to the loved ones. May her memory be forever in our hearts. Rest in peace”.
It will be possible to say goodbye to Jūrate Derukaite on Friday, January 5, from 4 p.m. In the Small Hall of “Aternas” funeral home (address: Šilutės pl. 48B, Klaipėda). Escort from the funeral home to the Lebarta cemetery is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Relatives ask not to bring wreaths or bouquets, but to honor Jūrate with a bouquet of multi-colored flowers.
