Klaipėda is preparing to host the sailboat racers of “The Tall Ships Races” in June

Next year, on June 27-30, crews of sailing ships will visit Klaipėda, and a rich cultural program, events and concerts will take place.

According to the public institution “Klaipėdos śvatės”, intense preparatory work for the race has been going on for more than half a year. It will be held in Klaipėda for the fifth time.

One of the highlights of the year is the Sail Training International Annual Conference held last weekend in Dunkirk, France. In order to attract the largest possible fleet of sailing ships, the Klaipėda team built and strengthened relations with ship captains and operators.

During the sessions, the port of Klaipėda was presented, and the good experiences and challenges of the ports that hosted the race this year were heard.

Sail Training International, which organizes The Tall Ships Races, aims to promote the empowerment of young people, regardless of their nationality, culture, religion and social status, through the culture of sailing. Therefore, the crews of the sailing ships participating in the race are 50%. 15-25 year old sailing apprentices.

Until November 29, the selection of 15-25-year-old Klaipėda sailing trainees is still underway. The commission will select 50 young people who, after training, will embark on a five-day sailing from Klaipėda to Helsinki as part of an international crew. The program is financed by Klaipėda City Municipality.

Registration of race volunteers is currently underway.

On December 8, the first introductory training for sailing trainees and volunteers will take place, during which they will be introduced to The Tall Ships Races event and sailing culture.
