It was May 7, 1924, when a commission of experts decided to investigate the eastern bay of the Wörthersees a new Beach resort to build.

It was the birth of the Klagenfurt lido, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

From its humble beginnings to its current size, the lido has undergone many changes. Several events will take place in the anniversary year
Events take place to properly celebrate the historic event: The big one kicks off Family celebration on Saturday, May 25th. From 10 a.m. and free entry.

The lido was given its original shape by the architect Franz Kopplhuber. The impressive entrance area with hall also comes from him
and galleries, which is now a listed building.

Two bridges were built at the end of the 1920s, a restaurant was built in 1926, and a sports pool was built in 1935. The “municipal lido” has been part of the municipal utilities since 1940, the new Invalidenbad was built in 1962 and a water slide has been delighting little bathers since 2001.

Location of events

Numerous renovations and expansions have been carried out to improve comfort and attractiveness for visitors and to meet different needs.

The Klagenfurt lido has also been the backdrop for unique events throughout its history, according to the Beach volleyball Grand Slam tournaments with worldwide appeal (until 2016), the lido has been a tried and tested and popular venue for the since 1998 Ironman Austria.

Celebrating the hundredth

The official start to the anniversary year is a big one Family celebration on Saturday, May 25th: With a ceremony, numerous well-wishers, a large birthday cake and a text specially written for the 100th anniversary Lido anthem the Klagenfurt band SINN.

As part of the celebration, the large exhibition on the history of the lido’s creation will also be opened, with photos and films shown
and memories are brought back to life. Face painting, sliding races, a KAC autograph session and a fun sautrog regatta ensure fun and variety. The program starts at 10 a.m. and admission is free.

On Friday, June 7th, you are invited to the open-air cinema (doors: 7:45 p.m., start: 8:15 p.m.): summer can be enjoyed in its most beautiful form in the open air on the meadow. And on the screen – in keeping with the surroundings – a film flickers for the whole family that puts you in a good mood.
