Jakarta, Insertlive –
This honest review doesn’t contain many spoilers, so for those of you who intend to watch ‘maybe’ keep calm reading this.
We certainly know Manoj Punjabi as a producer who knows the moment and the market very well. With an MD Pictures train, Manoj is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the cinema industry, and with his clan of last name –Punjabi–, it feels like he is destined to be on this path.
Ayat-Ayat Cinta is the most magnificent product in the early days of MD Pictures. The novel adaptation of the sincere classic story of a pious young man with an Egyptian girl, mixed beautifully by Hanung Bramantyo, has hypnotized Indonesian cinema.
This is valid evidence that from the start, MD Pictures had midas’ hands in creating Indonesian box office guarantee films. In 2008, fthe science exploded, and the local film industry was booming.
After the success of religious titles, MD has also devoured many genres, one of which is comedy and horror. For horror, MD gains a lot of money from Danur Universe.
And it seems that the myth regarding Manoj’s eyes and the line of confidants that captured the moment so keenly was proven once more through the decision to film KKN in Penari Village.
MD was willing to delay this film for a long time because of the corona epidemic that evolved into a pandemic and we all know that at that time cinemas were suspended. Although following that it was allowed to ‘do business’, cinemas were still quiet and fluctuating because of the conditions and regulations that were open and closed.
They, –yes MD I mean– know very well that this ‘stuff’ has to be thrown into the market at the right time. Eid 2022 turns out to be the answer.
They also probably don’t want to miss as much as what happened in the streaming series Kites Break, which is shaded by the WeTV umbrella because it leaks everywhere. For KKN in the Dancing Village alon-alon origin how.

Thrown at the moment of the Lebaran holiday, the Community Service Program in the Dancer Village was a huge success. Even the Doctor Strange sequel doesn’t pose a serious threat to the film, which was lifted from the SimpleMan Twitter thread.
A Twitter thread that recounted the real experience of SimpleMan was a big commotion in 2019. Readers will understand very well why the atmosphere of this SimpleMan story is so terrible.
Reading the story in that thread will make you shudder as well as make your imagination fly everywhere. So when MD announced he was making his film, there weren’t a few genuine readers of this thread —not an audience that is really interested in hearing the fame of horror just too late and then go to the cinema— will hang expectations moderately above.
But it’s true what people say, expectations can kill you. Expectations are only expectations, KKN in Desa Penari did not satisfy me as a reader of the SimpleMan magical thread.
The film, directed by Awi Suryadi — MD’s regular director — was actually written not too badly by Gerald Mamahit and Lele Laila, but because the execution was bland and didn’t bite.
The execution of the visualization of the real story from the Twitter thread seemed stiff because it only seemed to follow the story on the 2019 Twitter sharing platform. If I’m honest it looks like there are holes here and there because the scene is just place-ketiplek following the snippets of the SimpleMan thread.
This film is really broken and jumps if you are used to watching a good and whole story via visuals. The effect feels even worse if you are the reader of the story three years ago.
It’s definitely very different from how we imagine beautiful ghosts to grannies creepy began to appear alternately when reading deeper by looking at the visuals on the big screen.
With a limited duration, I can say that KKN in Dancing Village is less scary. In fact, we as viewers are less concerned with the characters there because maybe the creators are confused regarding how to explore their respective characters.
We should be worried regarding Nur (Tissa Biani) more, but I think the creators are busy making a lot of appearances throughout the duration of the film.
The tension felt in the beginning is getting weaker to the middle. Again, the film feels too crowded of sightings rather than amplifying the story.
You all probably already know how actors contribute to their characters, so to keep it short, I’m entertained by jokes fresh Wahyu, played by comedian Fajar Nugra.
Although sometimes dry, Wahyu is a differentiator from the character set of the six students who are not well explored. Then what regarding the beautiful ghost Badarawuhi played by Aulia Sarah?
Again, if his appearances are not so frequent with the appearance of other forms, his appearances may become more sacred. But never mind, the slack in the plot and the confusing execution did ruin everything.
Behind the shortcomings that I describe, the plus point of this film is the beautiful cinematography from DOP Ipung Rachmat Syaiful spoils the eyes. I understand very well Manoj really likes it beauty shot in all his films.

Whether it’s horror, religious drama or other genres, a good picture is an absolute requirement for him. And Ipung’s work is very well done. Nice visuals, period.
Meanwhile, the horror that I experienced was quite good, the atmosphere was built by Ricky Lionardi as the person in charge of scoring and music arrangement.
Well, apart from the impressive audience of almost 4 million recently, KKN in Penari Village seems to be even more magical on Twitter.
