WhatsApp emojis are here. Here’s how to take advantage of it to amaze your friends.
Attempts to create emojis by brands are always an interesting experience. We knew they were coming soon, here are the WhatsApp avatars. If you want to try your hand at the experiment, here’s how to use them.
Creation of the avatar
To create the avatar, go to your WhatsApp settings on your smartphone. Tap your profile picture at the top, then tap the camera icon. There, select Avatar.
Unfortunately, you cannot scan your face to create your Avatar. It will take a little imagination and create it from scratch. Difficult in these conditions to create something similar, but there are still a lot of options: skin color, hair, accessories, beard, makeup, body shape, clothes, etc.
WhatsApp’s avatar system is of course powered by Meta. The creation takes place exactly as on Messenger. On the other hand, it is not possible to share the same avatar between the two messaging services.
For the moment the functionality seems only available on iOS. We were unable to create an avatar from an iPhone, Mac or the web version of the service.
Share your Avatar and populate your friends’ nightmares
Once your avatar is done, you can add it as a profile picture. You can also send a whole series of reactions to your friends, featuring your avatar.
Please note that if you modify your avatar following publishing a sticker representing it, its appearance in the old sticker will not be modified and will remain as it was before.
This attempt by WhatsApp reminded the editors of Samsung’s first AR emojis, here on the Galaxy S9.

Remember that Meta, and Mark Zuckerberg a fortiori, are betting big on avatars, since they will be your theoretical representation in the metaverse of Meta, now the big project of Facebook’s parent company.
If the result is fun and does the trick for a few WhatsApp replies, let’s just say there’s still work to be done.
