American actress Kirstie Alley died Monday at the age of 71, her family reported.
The artist, recognized for her leading roles in the film saga Look Who’s Talking (“Look who’s talking”) and the series Cheers y Veronica’s Closethad recently discovered she had cancer, her children, True and Lillie Parker, said in a statement posted on her mother’s Twitter account.
“We are saddened to tell you that our amazing, brave and loving mother has passed away,” they wrote.
“Our mother’s enthusiasm and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her undying joy of creating, were unmatched and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.
“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more incredible mother and grandmother,” they added.
The family did not specify what type of cancer the actress, who was born in Wichita, Kansas, had.
“She was accompanied by her closest family and she fought with great force, leaving us with the certainty of her endless joy of living and the adventures to come,” they said.
Cheer’s success
Alley achieved peak popularity for her breakout role as Rebecca Howe in Cheersa sitcom on the American network NBC that aired between 1987 and 1993.
The actress received an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for playing that character in 1991.
In addition to his starring role in CheersAlley appeared in several films during the 1980s and 1990s.
These included the hit trilogy “Look Who’s Talking” (1989), “Look Who’s Talking Too” (1990) and “Look Who’s Talking Now” (1993), co-starring John Travolta.
He was also a part of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” (1982), “Summer School Fun” (1987), Sibling Rivalry (1990), It Takes Two (1995), “In wealth and in poverty” (1997) and “Die, pretty” (1999).
He won his second Emmy Award in 1994 for the telefilm David’s Mother and received another Emmy nomination in 1997 for his work on the crime drama series “The Last Don.”
John Travolta he said goodbye to her with a few words on Instagram.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” the 68-year-old actor wrote.
“I love you, Kirstie. I know we will see each other once more”he added.
