The Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakidou, has sent a letter to EU health ministers about the plans to donate vaccines and therapeutics to deal with mpox (monkey pox).
“Solidarity is key to addressing global health threats. We rely on member states to support our African partners in management,” she says in a post on the X platform.
Stella Kyriakidou in the letter states that “several member states and third countries have announced their intention to donate doses to affected countries and Africa. European donations will have a more immediate impact if they are coordinated and channeled with the proven Team Europe approach, as was successfully done during the Covid 19 pandemic.”
I have written to 🇪🇺 Health Ministers regarding plans to donate #mpox vaccines & therapeutics.

“That is why my services have reached out to the HERA board representatives to inquire about your intention to donate vaccines and therapeutic drugs for mpox and the quantities available for donation with a deadline before the end of August.
As you know, there is a joint supply framework contract with the Bavarian Nordic company and you can get more mpox vaccines for donation purposes as well,” adds the health and food safety commissioner, according to newsbeast.
