The Kingdom stressed the need to find long-term solutions to address gaps in global pandemic preparedness and response procedures.

In the Kingdom’s speech to the 76th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajel stressed the importance of finding long-term solutions to address the gaps in global pandemic preparedness and response procedures, referring to the establishment of the International Pandemic Fund, and the Kingdom’s donation to this fund.

He pointed out that the Kingdom’s participation in two important events next year represented in the United Nations Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance, and the Kingdom’s hosting of the fourth high-level ministerial conference on antimicrobial resistance scheduled to be held in November 2024, comes from the Kingdom’s belief in applying the One Health approach, and in an effort to respond to health risks. the most important of which is the risk of antibiotic resistance.

He hoped that these efforts would contribute to reducing this silent epidemic, finding effective and sustainable solutions to it, and raising readiness for it and other public health threats at the regional and international levels.

Al-Jalajel stated that the Kingdom confirms its endeavor to achieve the principles included in the leaders’ statement during the Kingdom’s presidency of the Group of Twenty in 2020, which coincided with the onset of the Corona pandemic.

And he appreciated the efforts made by the organization and the member states to amend the International Health Regulations, and the ongoing negotiations to draft the Epidemic Treaty, which aims to find additional legal tools to deal with future pandemics, and avoid the obstacles and challenges that the world faced in combating the Corona pandemic.
