This Thursday, 10 people considered by their relatives as “everyday heroes” were received by King Philippe. Belgians selected among many others, because they have in some way embellished the lives of the people around them.
“Bernadette is someone who thinks of everyone, all the time, and who at every opportunity to invest herself, to give energy and time, does so.” Bernadette is one of the ten profiles selected by the Be Heroes initiative. La Sérésienne was named heroine by her colleague Guillaume. “Being an everyday hero doesn’t necessarily mean doing big things, but doing little things every day, with a lot of kindness in the end”he said.
The superpower of this Seresian: getting involved in all the good deeds within her reach and sharing her joie de vivre.
“I was very surprised and really delighted, but frankly what I do on a daily basis… I try to bring a little bit of sunshine into people’s lives and it’s really a pleasure for me”, she confides.
Volunteers in the voluntary sector, social or medical workers, hundreds of people have been identified as everyday heroes by one of their relatives. The “Be Heroes” organization has selected ten of them to share their experiences and projects with King Philippe. “I’m a little embarrassed to be here because I represent all the youth centers in Belgium. He (King Philippe) was very receptive and having recognition like that from the authorities is only good for the future, we hope so in any case”, said Tristan, coordinator of the Genappe youth center.
Beyond individual recognition, “Be Heroes” seeks above all to highlight altruistic journeys and why not inspire other super citizens.
