King Philippe attends iftar at a Muslim family in Ham

King Philippe visited a family in Ham, Limburg, this week. The ruler took part in the Muslim family’s iftar. This is the meal taken each evening by Muslims to break the fast during Ramadan. Queen Mathilde was to accompany her, but a positive Covid test prevented her from doing so, according to the Royal Palace.

The king “was invited to join them in this Ramadan period to taste delicious homemade Syrian dishes and learn regarding Syrian culture. The family explains how they experience Ramadan on a daily basis and talks in particular regarding the importance of iftar as a moment of conviviality and sharing.“, clarified the Royal Palace on Instagram. “Often families, friends and neighbors gather to savor“the iftar meal, still indicates the publication.

As explained by our colleagues from the VRT, the mother of the family, Sevim Nabghali, is a cook and shares her recipes on Instagram. She had invited the royal couple to come and taste her dishes. Philippe and Mathilde finally accepted the invitation, to his great surprise. “I spent two days cooking“, confided the lady to the newspaper Het Belang van Limburg. For their part, the children indicated that the King had asked them a lot of questions.

This year, Ramadan begins on April 1 and ends on May 1.
