King of the red cards appointed for FC Twente – NAC Breda

FC Twente will play their seventh league match of the season next Sunday at 2:30 PM. NAC Breda will be the opponent in De Grolsch Veste. The Brabanders have already won two of their three home matches this season, but have not yet won a single point away from home. Last Sunday, NAC lost 2-0 to Feyenoord.

Referee Martin van den Kerkhof has been appointed to lead the match. He will be assisted in Enschede by Richard Polman and Nils van Kampen. Rick Sturm is the fourth official. From Zeist, Allard Lindhout is the VAR, Martijn Beier is the AVAR.

Van den Kerkhof is the true king of red cards in the Eredivisie this season. In his first three matches of the season he already gave four. During the first round he gave three red cards at Almere City – AZ, two weeks later he gave a red card to Fortuna Sittard defender Rodrigo Guth during the away match against Ajax. Remarkably enough Van den Kerkhof only gave five yellow cards, which is not many in three matches, but four red ones. This means that the referee is responsible for no less than 28.57 percent of the red cards that have been given in the Eredivisie so far this season.

Last season, Van den Kerkhof refereed three matches for FC Twente. The 40-year-old referee was in charge of the away matches against Fortuna Sittard (0-3), Sparta Rotterdam (2-2) and NEC Nijmegen (1-0). In total, it will be the 23rd official FC Twente match for Van den Kerkhof.
