King Mohammed VI of Morocco congratulates Putin on electoral victory – Jornal OPaís

King Mohammed VI of Morocco yesterday congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his victory in the presidential elections held on Sunday, which allows him to remain in the Kremlin until 2030, according to Reuters.

According to the Moroccan news agency MAP, the monarch expressed to Putin “his warm congratulations on the renewal of the people’s trust in him” and wished him “every success in his efforts to lead the Russian Federation towards greater progress and prosperity ”.

Mohammed VI also expressed his “firm determination” to work with Putin to “strengthen the distinct ties of friendship that unite the two countries, based on mutual esteem, fruitful cooperation and the common will to consolidate the strategic partnership” between the two countries, added the same source.

A large part of the international community, such as the United States, the European Union and Canada, refused to congratulate Putin and did not recognize the legitimacy of the elections, in which the Russian President ran without real opposition.

Putin was re-elected for a fifth term with 87.28% of the votes, Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) announced Tuesday at the end of the vote.
