The Three Lions reached the final of the 17th edition of the Euro 2024 Championship following a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Netherlands in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening.
England secured victory in stoppage time, scoring the second goal in the 91st minute following the regular time ended in a 1-1 draw.
The official account of the royal family on the “X” platform published a message from the British King, which read: “My wife and I would like to join all members of our family in offering you our warmest congratulations on qualifying for the Euro final, and sending you our best wishes for success in the match on Sunday.”
The King asked his country to have “less drama” in the Euro final, saying: “If I can encourage you to win before any last-minute wonder goals or another penalty shootout drama are needed, I am sure the pressure on the nation’s heartbeat and blood pressure will be greatly eased. Good luck England.”
England will meet Spain in the final, scheduled for next Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, following they beat France 2-1 on Tuesday.
This is the second time in a row that England has reached the European Nations Cup final, noting that they lost the final of the last edition on penalties to Italy.
England are looking to win their first major tournament since 1966, when they won the World Cup on home soil, but they will face an obstacle from Spain, which is looking to make history as it seeks to break the record for the number of continental championship titles it currently shares with Germany (three titles each).
