King Charles III pledges to serve Britons with ‘loyalty and love’, like his mother Elizabeth II

King Charles III of England held an expected speech this Friday evening, following the death on September 8 in Scotland of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Addressing the British people for nine minutes, Charles III paid a moving tribute to his mother, calling Elizabeth II a“inspiration and example, guiding my life and that of any family. We owe him an immense debt”.

He promised to take charge of the state and serve the British all his life, as Elizabeth II had done before him: “As the Queen herself has done with unwavering devotion, I too solemnly pledge myself, for as long as God will grant me, to uphold the constitutional principles at the heart of our nation”said Charles in his first televised address as sovereign.

“And wherever you live in the UK, or in the kingdoms and territories around the world, and whatever your origins or beliefs, I will strive to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have done throughout my life”he added.
