According to several royal sources, informed of Meghan and Harry’s arrival in Scotland, King Charles “call” Prince Harry to ask him not to bring his wife Meghan Markle to Balmoral Castle while he and other members members of the royal family rushed to the side of the dying queen.
Amid Thursday’s personal family tragedy, when the Queen died aged 96, a little domestic drama was playing out behind the scenes involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
It was kind of a happy coincidence that Harry and Meghan happened to be in the country when the prince’s grandmother died, sparing him an emotional transatlantic race as the Queen’s health worsened.
Despite the bitterness of recent years, no one would blame him for mourning his beloved “granny”, with whom he had always had a warm and fun relationship.
But as the royal households were concerned regarding the ailing monarch, the Sussexes caused an unprecedented outburst behind the scenes by announcing that Harry and Meghan would both be heading to Balmoral.
According to The Sun, Prince Harry was at Frogmore Cottage when he received a call from his father asking him not to bring Meghan.
“Charles told Harry that it was neither fair nor appropriate for Meghan to be at Balmoral at such a deeply sad time,” a source told the newspaper.
“It was pointed out to him that Kate would not be going and that the number should really be limited to the closest family.”
“Charles made it very, very clear that Meghan would not be welcome.”
Meanwhile, The Telegraph reported that Harry was not initially summoned when senior royals visited Balmoral, like his brother Prince William, for constitutional reasons.
