Last week, 17.-19. until April, the Anija parish kindergarten theater festival was once more held in Kehra for several years. Children and teachers from the three houses of Anija Valla Kindergartens, Kehra Lastetare and Lepatriinu and Alavere Mõmmila took part in the play days canceled since 2020 due to the corona virus.
On the three days of the festival, there were two shows in the forenoon. On Monday, the play “Jussike’s seven friends” was performed by the Mõmmitare group of Lastetare nursery school, where 5-7-year-old language immersion children attend. The Jänkutare group, consisting of preschoolers, played the “Fairy Tale of the White Butterfly”. On Tuesday, the preschoolers of Ladybug’s kindergarten Trikitriinu gave the performance “Vares Vaak and friends” and Ladybug’s teachers brought “Kadudu täpid” to the stage. On Wednesday, the teachers of Lastetare performed the play “The sky is falling on my head” and the preschoolers of Mõmmila performed the play “Mutionu Pidu”.
In addition to kindergarten children, elementary school students of Kehra Gymnasium and some parents came to watch the performances in the Kehra community center.
The director of Anija Valla Kindergartens, Maret Kivistu, who was the initiator of the municipality’s kindergarten theater festival in 2014, said that the idea to revive the tradition of the theater festival came to the kindergartens in the month of January. Therefore, the children managed to learn and practice the plays for a few months. The teachers had the same amount of time to learn the play, who mainly practiced during lunch breaks when the children were sleeping.
“The performance of Ladybug’s House “Kadudu täpid” was ready for the kindergarten’s birthday in March, it had to be repeated for the festival. There are nine actors in the play, or nearly half of the teachers. It was directed by music teacher Kaisa Tiismaa,” said Maret Kivistu, who was also one of the actors.
7 teachers participated in the Kindergarten teachers’ play “The sky fell in their laps”, music teacher Leili Viirmann helped with the musical part. The director said that he would have liked to participate in this production as well, but there was not enough time.
Mare Kivistu: “Theatres that give performances in kindergartens are very expensive these days, the ticket is 3-4 euros per child. There has been good feedback on our performances and the teachers play so cool that they might go on tour to other kindergartens themselves. Of course, this requires time, which is not easy to find besides work.”
Due to the short notice period, the Aegviidu kindergarten was not included, but according to Lastetare head teacher Katrin Altsepa, they definitely want to invite the children and teachers of the fourth kindergarten in Anija municipality to participate in the theater festival next year.
