Kinder Surprise, Schoko Bons, …: the Afsca recalls products manufactured by Ferrero in Arlon due to salmonella

Thus, the Afsca asks not to consume and to bring back to the point of sale in which they were purchased the following sweets:

– Kinder Surprise 20g and 3x20g with a minimum durability date (BDD) between 07/11/22 and 10/7/22

– Kinder Surprise Maxi with an MDD between 08/10/22 and 09/10/22

– Schoko Bons with an MDD between 08/10/22 and 09/10/22

– Kinder Mini Eggs with an MDD between 08/10/22 and 09/10/22.

“These products are popular with young children. As Easter approaches, the Afsca asks parents to check whether they have these products in their possession and, if necessary, to ensure that they are not consumed”, insists the agency.

The Afsca says it is carrying out additional and targeted checks at the level of the Ferrero company in Belgium following the discovery of a series of outbreaks of salmonella in Europe. An investigation to identify the common source has shown Ferrero’s famous “Kinder Surprise” chocolate eggs to be a suspect food product. “In Belgium, there are currently no confirmed cases linked to this epidemic. A certain number of suspected cases are being investigated in cooperation with the community health services and the national reference laboratory Sciensano”, underlines the agency.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause salmonellosis, a common infection that can result in fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea within 6 to 72 hours of eating the infected food. Young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised people and the elderly are more likely to develop symptoms.
