Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich angered the fans of Freiburg and the team’s players by celebrating his team’s victory at Freiburg Stadium with a goal without a response, in front of the fans of the home team, which caused angry reactions after the match.
Bayern took revenge for its defeat by Freiburg with two goals to one last Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the German Cup, by defeating it today, Saturday, with the goal of Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt, to consolidate its position at the top of the Bundesliga.
“He should be happy about the three points, but not provoke the fans of the opposing team,” said Freiburg midfielder Nicholas Hoeffler about Kimmich’s victory celebration in front of his team’s fans.
For his part, Freiburg coach Christian Streich told Sky TV, “Maybe this happened due to the fact that we beat Bayern on Tuesday, which no one expected.”
He added, “Maybe he did it because there was a lot of pressure. We didn’t run towards the Bayern fans after we won, but maybe the situation is different with Bayern because he usually doesn’t lose.”
Kimmich tried to justify his behavior, telling Sport 1 TV, “When we were warming up, a ten-minute documentary was broadcast about the quarter-final match for the Cup and how we got out.”
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel defended Kimmich, saying, “In the end, it’s part of the matter. Of course, we didn’t get the cup back by winning today, but we were all angry after the exit. These things can happen after that, the match was very close.”
