As former chairman Kim Won-woong resigned due to controversy over the creation of slush funds and embezzlement, the Liberation Society, which was in a state of ‘leadership vacancy’, decided to normalize its organization through the emergency response committee system. A new president will be elected in May.

The Liberation Party held an extraordinary general meeting in the auditorium of the Liberation Center in Yeouido, Seoul on the 18th to unanimously vote on the composition of the non-commissioned committee by 51 people in attendance.

The Liberation Party decided to discuss the specific form and members of the non-captainer later, but it is likely to be led by Representative Jeon Jeon-bok, who has led the ‘Corruption Countermeasures Committee’ and took the lead in investigating the corruption of former Chairman Kim. It is expected that a large number of people classified as ‘anti-Kim Won-woong’ will also join the non-commissioning committee.

At the extraordinary general meeting, it was also agreed to elect a new president at the regular general meeting in May. The term of the current executive branch, including Vice Chairman Huh Hyun, who was appointed acting chairman at the board meeting the day before, lasts until May next year, but it is judged that it is not desirable to leave the position of chairman vacant for more than one year.

Many of the delegates who attended the general meeting raised the theory of responsibility for the current executive branch in relation to the resignation of former Chairman Kim, through their speeches. Accordingly, the general meeting participants also immediately proposed the ‘recommendation for resignation of all executives’ on the day, and 47 out of 51 incumbents voted in favor.

A delegate who attended the general assembly said, “The current executive does not think the resolution will be accepted right away because the resolution is not compulsory.” At present, the executive branch of the Liberation Association remains with Acting Chairman Heo Hyun and six directors. Representative Lee Hae-seok said, “I criticize the executive branch that flattered and jumped on board even following knowing regarding the corruption of former Chairman Kim.” “If it were me, I would have resigned here today.” “He said.

In the midst of this, Acting Heo said, “For whatever reason, we (the executive department) are obviously ashamed and apologetic. We will revitalize the Liberation Party by actively collecting opinions that will come out today,” but some members booed, shouting, “Don’t show.”

According to the results of a recent audit by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Affairs, which manages and supervises veterans’ public law organizations such as the Liberation Society, former chairman Kim raised tens of millions of won in slush funds with the proceeds of the outdoor cafe ‘Heritage 815’ operated by the Liberation Society on the grounds of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul to purchase clothes and illegal massage. It was used for personal use, such as business access.

Former Chairman Kim completely denied the allegations, but announced his intention to resign voluntarily on the 16th as members demanded the convening of an extraordinary general meeting to vote on the president’s no-confidence and raised the level of pressure, such as announcing a sit-down at the Liberation Hall.

However, in his resignation statement, Chairman Kim blamed the incident on a former Liberation Party employee who reported the corruption, saying, “I did not know how to see people and an accident occurred due to wrong supervision.”

The Liberation Society voted on the resignation of former Chairman Kim at the board meeting the day before, but some members are complaining, saying, “It helped me avoid the disgrace of impeachment.” At the general meeting on the same day, one delegate protested, “Ex-Chairman Kim should also be punished by law,” saying, “It should be removed through a vote of no confidence in the president, but it is very different from voluntary resignation.”
