The influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has once again issued threats and insults against the United States. Kim Yo Young announced that North Korea would increasingly demonstrate its military might. This is in response to the US decision to send nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea. Kim Yo Jong also insulted US President Joe Biden, who received South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol this week.
According to state media reports, Kim Yo Jong said the US-South Korean agreement demonstrates the allies’ “most hostile and aggressive will to act” against the North and will pose an even greater threat to peace and security in the region. The Washington summit strengthened North Korea’s conviction that its nuclear weapons capabilities to improve.
Biden must expect serious consequences
The sister of the ruler described US President Biden as senile and “irresponsibly brave”. Biden warned on Wednesday that a nuclear attack by North Korea would result in the end of the government in Pyongyang. Kim Yo Jong said her country would not simply dismiss his words as “a nonsensical remark by a person in his prime.” Biden must expect serious consequences because of his threatening rhetoric.

Kim Jong-un sees military maneuvers as a threat
South Korea’s reunification ministry called her comments absurd. They underlined nervousness and frustration in the North over Allies’ efforts to strengthen nuclear deterrence, it said in a statement.
During their summit, Biden and Yoon announced new nuclear deterrence efforts. For example, for the first time in decades, nuclear-armed American submarines are to dock regularly in South Korea and coordination in military training is to be strengthened. In addition, both sides committed to bilateral presidential consultations in the event of a North Korean nuclear attack, the establishment of a nuclear advisory group, and enhanced information-sharing on nuclear and strategic weapons deployment plans.
North Korea has described the United States’ regular military exercises with South Korea as rehearsals for an invasion of the north, while its allies describe the maneuvers as defensive. Experts say Kim Jong-un is using the maneuvers as an excuse to advance his weapons programs and consolidate his leadership position at home.
