North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Victory Day in Russia, promising strong solidarity.
On the 10th, the Korean Central News Agency and the Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of Korea, reported that Chairman Kim told President Putin the day before, “On the anniversary of the victory of the great Fatherland War in Russia, in the name of the government and people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, I wish you and the friendly Russian government and people the most. Sending warm congratulations and warm greetings.”
“The Russian people have achieved a great victory in the war of justice that destroys fascism, which has threatened the fate of mankind,” Kim said.
“I send solid solidarity to the cause of the Russian people to fundamentally eliminate political and military threats and blackmail from hostile forces, and to safeguard the dignity, peace and security of the country, continuing the tradition of immortal victory,” he said.
This is in line with the existing claims of Russia and North Korea that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was caused by artificial US intervention.
“I am confident that the strategic and traditional North Korea-Russia friendly relations will be continuously strengthened and developed in line with the demands of the times and the fundamental interests of the people of both countries,” he said.
North Korea is putting a lot of emphasis on friendly relations with Russia, its ally, this year, which marks the third anniversary of the summit between Chairman Kim and Putin.
