Kim Jin-tae presses Lee Kwang-jae in Gangwon-seo’s ‘original pro-no’

◆ June 1 local elections ◆

Candidate Jin-tae Kim of the People’s Strength, running for governor of Gangwon-do, outpaced candidate Lee Kwang-jae of the Democratic Party of Korea.

In the exit poll of the three broadcasters on the 1st, Candidate Kim won 54.9% and defeated Candidate Lee Kwang-jae (45.1%) by 9.8 percentage points. In the meantime, he has been considered a ‘Democratic striker’ and was selected as a candidate for the ‘originator pro-no’. He was re-elected in the Chuncheon constituency in the 19th and 20th general elections, but in the 21st general election, he was hit by Rep. Heo Young-hyeon, a former student activist who served as president of the student union. In the past, he was eliminated due to the ‘controversy of remarks’ in the 5/18 pro-democracy movement, but he apologized to the public and joined the primary and was reinstated, eventually winning the position of governor of Gangwon-do.

Candidate Kim also takes the title of the first governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and the protagonist who recaptured Gangwon Province for the first time in 12 years. He has been emphasizing ‘change of government following change of government’. Candidate Kim said, “The Democratic Party’s path led by Lee Kwang-jae and Choi Moon-soon is a lost 12 years. In addition, he said, “I will make every effort so that the long-awaited projects in Gangwon Province, such as the installation of a five-color cable car, as well as major promises such as attracting the Bank of Korea in Chuncheon and the Wonju semiconductor cluster, can be resolved as soon as possible.”
