Kim has said goodbye to the colony garden: – I don’t miss the tone

He has had time to land on the decision.

And here, a few months after Kim Bønlykke sold his allotment garden in the garden association Jørgen Berthelsen’s Minde, he is completely settled.

– It was the right decision at the right time for me and my wife, says Kim Bønlykke today.

While he had a prominent role in the first season of TV2’s hit show The Ballad of the Colony Garden, it has only been a few glimpses this season, which ends with the final episode today, Tuesday.

With both the documentary and the colony garden in Aalborg at a distance, Kim Bønlykke has had time to reflect.

And he sits with mixed feelings.

– Because the conflicts and the many discussions take up more on TV than they actually do in the association’s everyday life, believes Kim Bønlykke.

Gossip – and good times

However, he does not hide the fact that he thinks there has been a lot of unrest in the colony garden compared to what he himself thinks is reasonable.

An attitude he has both now and then, when in the first season he was known as the calm deputy chairman – until he had enough of the conflicts and called it quits.

Kim Bønlykke no longer wanted to be part of the board of what has probably become the country’s best-known garden association.

– And when I watch the series today, I am quite frankly outraged and irritated that there is still a small group who are allowed to talk about Putin and dictatorship when they talk about the board. I don’t miss the tone, it touches on the absurd, he says.

– There is a lot of gossip, but it is also important to emphasize that it is only between a small group of residents and the board. Many good things also happen in the colony garden, and we have also made many good friendships.

When we here in Nordjyske previously wrote about Kim Bønlykke putting his 44 square meter idyll with the well-kept garden and greenhouse up for sale after 16 years, he also mentioned as the main reason that he and his wife had bought a house and couldn’t bear to look after it twice house with garden.

To protect volunteerism

Kim Bønlykke emphasizes that he does not regret being part of the Ballad of the Colony Garden, but it annoys him that, in his view, it is now more about individuals than the associational life that is so important to him.

– My position is that it has moved from a documentary series to more of a reality show, he says.

– And I think it’s a shame. When I became part of the board, I really bought into the project, that we should try to modernize the association.

He believes that volunteerism must be protected.

– It may seem that board work is terribly hard. But in the vast majority of cases it is not. It is exciting, and it is important to help set the direction for association life.

– I miss that work. But I don’t yet know what the new thing will be. My wife is a board member of a sea kayak club, and I can be completely envious when she talks about it and the new people she meets, says he, who is a trained teacher and is currently doing a management course.

– I must have found my own, but it is not quite easy.

The good tone

While Kim Bønlykke is still considering that part of his life, there is something he has learned about.

Namely himself.

Because while he is critical of other people’s way of acting, his reflections have also provided a look inside.

– Today I regret some of the debates I myself participated in on Facebook before the TV series, says Kim Bønlykke, who does not want to go into detail.

– I subsequently met someone who thought I had been rude to them in the debates. So there I also learned a lot about myself, and that you have to be careful not to become too unvaried in your attitudes.

– I think it is important to be able to maintain a good tone in all debates. Both privately and in a TV series, he emphasizes.

It is today that TV2 shows the last episode of this season of The Ballad of the Colony Garden.
