Kim Gun-hee, spouse of President Yoon Seok-yeol, continued ‘first lady diplomacy’ with the spouses of the heads of state who participated in the NATO summit on the 29th.
On this day, Kim visited the Palace of San Ildefonso, the Royal Glass Factory, and the Sofia National Museum in Madrid, Spain with her spouses. In particular, she drew attention as it was noticed that Kim and Jill Biden, the wife of US President Joe Biden, were accompanied at a close distance. Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Biden even talked for a while in front of a fountain in the San Ildefonso Palace.
Kim and Biden also met at a gala dinner hosted by the King of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid the day before. President Biden recognized Mrs. Kim at the dinner and spoke to her, saying, “It’s nice to see you once more.” President Biden and First Lady Kim met face-to-face at a South Korea-US summit last month.
First Lady Kim said to Biden, “It was a pity that I mightn’t come to Korea last time, but it’s nice to see you here like this.” Kim and Jill Biden also took a commemorative photo together.
The presidential office said that Kim and Biden talked on topics such as art and culture. After the Korea-US summit, Mrs. Kim even gifted Mrs. Biden with a catalog of the Mark Rothko exhibition she had planned while representing her Kovana Contents.
