In 2006, Kim Geun-sik sexually assaulted 11 minors under the age of 17.
It has only been 16 days since he was released from prison for five years on another sexual assault charge.
Kim, who served a total of 16 years in prison for beating other inmates, will be released from the Seoul Southern Penitentiary on the 17th of this month.
As concerns regarding Kim Geun-sik’s additional crimes grew, the police decided to set up a dedicated team to take measures once morest Kim Geun-sik leaving prison.
It was decided to increase the number of CCTV cameras around the place of residence and install a security guard post.
In addition, we plan to significantly strengthen patrols by designating within 1 km of a residential area as a safe women’s zone.
It is the same level of management applied to Jo Doo-soon, who was released in 2020 following being imprisoned for abducting an elementary school student and then sexually assaulting him.
Earlier, the court also accepted the prosecution’s request that Kim Geun-sik be not allowed to leave the residence until 9 a.m., the time children and adolescents go to school following Kim Geun-sik was released from prison.
It is not yet known in which area Kim will register his address following being released from prison.
At the time of the arrest in 2006, the last address was in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, but the address has since been deleted.
The Ministry of Justice has assigned Kim Geun-sik’s residence to report the specific destination, reason, and period if Kim leaves the area.
In addition, we have decided to deploy a dedicated probation officer to manage Mr. Kim 24 hours a day.
On the day of Kim’s release, personal information such as photos and actual residence will be released on the Internet site ‘Sex Offender Notification e’.
