In the Rafael Uribe Uribe Victims Unit is located the Kilombo Yummawhere six Afro-Colombian women, victims of the conflict and displaced, work to rescue and maintain the medicina ancestral for his community in Bogotá.

For this reason, they are leading the creation of Kilombo appa platform that seeks to be a tool that expedites procedures and allows people to always have ancestral medicine at hand.

Kilombo App, in this way, also proposes to include other knowledge in the local and national health system and design guidelines and generate effectiveness in data collection digitally.

The Kilombo Yumma has a head nurse with ancestral and western knowledge. She also has a manager who is in charge of the link between the kilombo and the communities in the territories, and an environmental technician.

In the team, there is a midwifea woman who has brought more than 100 children to the world and works in the prevention of different diseases. Likewise, there is a midwife, who is in charge of active listening from the holistic point of view: soul, body and energy for the effectiveness of the treatments.

Let’s go back to the origin. We are not ignoring Western medicine, we are saying here is another medicine that is a complement and would help a lot to prevent the health system from collapsing, because it is preventive,” assured Julisa Mosquera, matron of the Kilombo Yumma.

In Bogotá there are 10 Kilombos and with the aim of speeding up the processes, from the Kilombo Yumma, this pilot was started by Laura Childwho has been leading projects in digital transformation in health worldwide for 13 years, with a special focus on emerging regions such as Kenya, Brazil, Colombia, India, among other countries.

The development of this app was made possible by a grant from Share-net International, which allowed working with an interdisciplinary team that developed a tool that fits the Kilombo’s beliefs and needs. USAID the ACDI/VOCA will support the dissemination and positioning of the app.

This pilot might be the opportunity for the Kilombos to be an active part in the health system, and their role in disease prevention is recognized.
