At least six people are dead after a bus crash in Nicaragua killed by a swarm of bees been. The bus fell down a slope where beehives were set up to produce honey in a coffee plantation in the municipality of San Sebastián de Yali in the north-west of the Central American country, local media reported. At least 14 other people were being treated for bee stings in hospitals, including a four-year-old child. All passengers in the bus are said to have survived the accident.
Victims between 8 and 84 years old
According to the reports, the fatalities were between eight and 84 years old. After the accident on Monday, local residents tried to help the 45 passengers on board, but the large number of Africanized honey bees prevented the rescue until the emergency services arrived. Some of those affected had more than 300 bee stings on, as the television station TN8 reported. Pictures showed victims whose bodies were covered with stitches.
