In a post on X, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, went ahead with the today’s arrest of the 80-year-old, who is accused of intentionally causing four fires in Glyka Nera on August 11.
In particular, Mr. Kikilias wrote:
“Last Sunday, when the civil protection forces were dealing with dozens of fires, with the danger index being at 5 (red – state of alarm) and shortly before the fire in Megara and the big fire in Varnava broke out, three consecutive outbreaks occurred in Glyka Nera , while after a few hours a fourth outbreak occurred. Today, an 80-year-old man was arrested and detained as the culprit, who will be brought before the investigating officer tomorrow. I remind you that now with the new Penal Code, the sentences for arsonists with intent reach 20 years in prison.”
