Kikilias for fire in Attica: Fierce battle in Kallitechnopolis and Grammatico VIDEO

The Minister of Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, described the fire as extremely dangerous during his briefing on the fiery front.

“We have been fighting for over 20 hours under dramatic conditions,” he stressed.

As he said, there is a tough battle in Kallitechnoupoli and Gramatiko, while the image is improved in Dionysos, Varnava and Mikrochori.

“Strong winds will remain”

Winds are also today at 7 Beaufort and will remain strong, he pointed out, according to ethnos,

“The response by both ground and air means was immediate. The first aerial attempt was made just 5 minutes after its start of fire. The first landfalls arrived at 7 minutes (…). Unfortunately, the prediction of the Risk Assessment Committee that put Attica on red alert was confirmed. We will continue until the last outbreak is extinguished”, concluded Mr. Kikilias.

At the moment, a fierce battle is being fought on two fronts: One is in the area of Kallietechnopolis and the other is in the area of Grammatik.

The image has improved in Dionysos, Varnavas and Mikrohori.

They operate 670 firefighters, 27 commando teams, 183 vehicles and 32 aerial units (17 aircraft and 15 helicopters). The winds are still at 7 Beaufort today and will remain very strong in the next few hours.

I want to be clear: The response by both ground and air means to the initial outbreak at Barnabas was immediate. The first air force attempted only 5 minutes after the fire started, as it was already in the air on a loaded patrol, while the first ground forces arrived within the first 7 minutes. Gradually and in a short time the forces were continuously strengthened with the aerial forces finally reaching 29 and the firefighters exceeding 500.

Unfortunately, the prediction of the Risk Assessment Committee, which put Attica and other regions of Greece on red alert, was confirmed. We will continue with all our strength until the last outbreak is brought under control and extinguished.
