Emmanuel Macron was re-elected, on April 24, President of the French Republic at the end of the second round of the presidential election. Rwandan President Paul Kagame hailed the “well-deserved re-election” of his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron and magnified his “visionary leadership”. “Congratulations on your well-deserved re-election President Emmanuel Macron. This is a testament to your visionary leadership which seeks to unite not divide,” Kagame wrote on his Twitter account. According to him, “Rwanda looks forward to even more and stronger partnerships between our peoples and our nations”. Macron became the first sitting French president to win a second term in 20 years following beating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in the second round on Sunday. After almost all the votes were counted, the 44-year-old incumbent president won 58.6% of the vote, according to Interior Ministry figures, while Ms Le Pen was expected to garner 41.4% votes cast. In his victory speech on Sunday evening, President Macron said: “Many people in this country voted for me, not because they support my ideas, but to dismiss those of the extreme right. I want to thank them and let them know that I owe them a debt in the years to come”.
