Federal party leader Herbert Kickl once once more swore his supporters to a “free people’s chancellor” and promoted the FPÖ ” once morest an alliance of crazy people”. As always, Kickl did not leave a good hair to the governing parties, but also to the other opposition parties and the Federal President. For example, he accused the Greens of “climate communism”: “It’s a mental illness that broke out there.” However, the focus was on the issue of migration. One must enforce the “home law” for Austrians and not for “Syrians or Afghans,” said Kickl.

Large contingent of police in action
The event on Friday evening was guarded by a large contingent of police. First, the audience was fired up with hits like “Cordula Grün” and “I stand for mountain farmers”, before Marco Triller, member of the state parliament, and the chairman of the Styrian FPÖ, Mario Kunasek, warmed up the stage for Kickl. The federal party leader was greeted with cheers and shouts of “Herbert, Herbert” from the cheering crowd.
Kickl saw the whistles he received while passing the registered counter-demonstration near the main square as proof that even following Corona “the lung function is intact, mentally it’s obviously a bit behind”. Because there is nothing to demonstrate “if you have all cups in the closet”.
“Any asylum accommodation is too much”
Kunasek, who was advertised by Kickl as future governor, addressed the refugee quarters in Leoben, which had been installed in a Baumax hall and are currently empty. “Each one is one asylum accommodation too many,” said Kunasek. Such neighborhoods are a “security risk,” he said. Riots, drug-related crime, sexual offenses “are things that happen there every day,” Kunasek claimed.
At 4:00 p.m., a rally once morest the themes of the blue event began near the church square. Around 50 to 60 people came, the banners read “Kill borders” and “Solidarity instead of fortress Europe”.
The main square had been declared a restricted zone for security reasons, so the opponents of the FPÖ event had to gather at a distance. The police did not want to estimate how many actually came to hear the FPÖ politicians, as many might only want to visit the bars around the square.
