kick-off of the 2nd edition of the “Zero Plastic School” operation

The second edition of the ZERO PLASTIC SCHOOL (EZP) challenge was officially launched on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at the Lycée Paul IDJENDJET NGONDJOUT in Libreville in the presence of the event’s partners for the collection and recycling of plastic waste.

This year, the EZP challenge takes on a new dimension with 5 additional establishments in Libreville and its extension to the city of Port-Gentil, the economic capital of the country.

The principle of the competition remains the same: each establishment must collect as many used plastic bottles as possible every week for a month and centralize them in dedicated bins made available by the partner Namé Recycling.

Every week, they will collect each bin and count the tonnage produced by each establishment.

It is a large-scale operation which should make it possible to fight once morest plastic pollution in schools, and to raise awareness among students as well as teaching and administrative teams.

Throughout the challenge, an awareness caravan will tour each establishment to train new generations, not only in the fundamentals of ecology, but also in the challenges of preserving the environment.

A caravan during which mini-competitions will also be organized to make works of art from used plastic bottles.

And to make this action long-term and to capitalize on these awareness sessions, green clubs will be created in each of the participating establishments.

A club that will be able to practice from the start of the challenge, which this year includes the dimension of sorting.

As a reminder, in 2023, the EZP challenge covered 15 establishments in Libreville, Akanda and Owendo, for a total of 20,000 students sensitized and more than 12 tonnes of plastic bottles collected.
