In 2023, Kia has recorded the best annual sales result in its history in Europe, with 572,297 units, according to new data published today by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
This represents an increase in sales of 5.4% compared to the previous year, while Kia’s market share in Europe has remained at 4.5%.
Kia sales boosted by growing demand for its electrified vehicles
Electrified vehicles, considering hybrids and plug-in hybrids, as well as fully electric vehicles with batteries, have totaled 217,145 units. This represents an increase of 9% compared to the previous year and 37.9% of the total in 2023.
This is a record number that is expected to rise further as Kia continues to roll out the EV9 to all markets in Europe.
The Kia Sportage has been the brand’s best-selling model in this European market, with 165,354 registrations. The Ceed family occupies second place with 87,246 units and the Niro has placed third, with 73,582.
In addition, annual sales of fully electric vehicles have increased by 22.7%, with 80,999 units. The new Kia eNiro has reached 40,074 units, while the award-winning Kia EV6 has followed with 36,195 units. 2,843 units of the Kia EV9 have been sold, despite a short sales period during 2023, and 1,887 of the e-Soul.
The European factory in Žilina (Slovakia) has produced more vehicles than ever
Last year, more than 350,000 vehicles left the production plant in Žilina (Slovakia). Compared to 2022, this figure represents an increase of 12%.
These data are proof of the success and impact of the Kia brand in Europe. Most of the units produced in 2023 belong to the fifth generation of the Sportage, up to 60% of the total. The remaining 40% are made up of various versions of the Ceed model.
In 2023, Kia Slovakia has also manufactured more than 507,000 engines, including the 7 millionth power unit. This means a year-on-year increase in engine production of more than 10%.
Kia Charge drives the company’s goals as an electric mobility brand
With Kia Charge, Kia opens up new opportunities in green energy charging for electrified vehicles, guaranteeing a completely environmentally friendly process. By the end of 2023, Kia Charge has reached new heights with more than 95,000 subscriptions, an increase of 54% compared to the previous year.
Charging point coverage has grown by 63% (now more than 643,000), compared to 2022. To this end, Kia’s partner and operator, IONITY, has recently announced that its network already has around 600 charging stations. and more than 3,300 high power chargers (High Power Charging HPC), in 24 European countries.
Europe contributes significantly to new world sales record
In 2023, Kia has also achieved record sales worldwide. The manufacturer closed the year with 3.1 million units sold. Of these, Kia Europe contributed 18.5%, which demonstrates its great track record in Europe. In total, global sales have seen an increase of 6.3%, compared to last year.
In 2024, Kia aims to reach 3.2 million units. By region, the brand expects to sell 530,000 units in Korea and 2,663,000 vehicles abroad.
