Despite the changing hybrid market, the Kia Niro also comes in its second generation in three drive variants. The SN tested the plug-in hybrid.
You don’t have to be clairvoyant to see the end of the plug-in hybrid boom coming. The more pure electric vehicles come onto the market, the more obvious are the compromises that models with two drive concepts force.
However, this does not prevent the Korean manufacturer Kia from continuing to offer the new edition of the compact crossover Niro in three variants. According to the calculation, 70 percent will be accounted for by the BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle).
Im SN-Test: Plug-in-Hybrid-Version des Kia Niro
With a standard electrical range of up to 65 kilometers, the plug-in hybrid we tested is an offer for commuters and everyone who likes to be on the safe side. The test showed more than 50 electric kilometers, even in frost, and the 11.1 kWh battery was fully charged once more within three hours.
Kia Niro: Bold design on the outside, sober on the inside
Visually, the plug-in cannot be distinguished from its brothers. Good thing, because the new design is typically modern, almost bold, for the brand. In addition to the LED light signature, the sporty, aerodynamically favorable C-pillar is particularly eye-catching. Inside, the Niro is decidedly sober. Unfortunately, the hard plastic on the doors doesn’t quite match the high standards of the rest of the interior. The cockpit offers a successful mix of displays, touch elements and buttons (on the steering wheel). Top marks were given for the feeling of space, comfort (seat heating at the back and front) and the infotainment. If you like to cruise comfortably, the Niro is the right choice. However, if you stress while driving, the engine punishes you with an unwilling hum.
