Kia has decided to stop selling the Rio model in Europe. Also, the car will no longer be sold in Australia, reports Autocar. Cars for these markets were produced at a factory in South Korea. At the same time, the car is also not for sale on the local market.
According to preliminary data, the Koreans decided to reduce their model due to low sales of Rio. For example, in Europe in 2022, 32,506 of these cars were sold. In turn, Rio’s competitor, the Opel Corsa, sold 164,119 copies. In Australia, the Korean car also lost sales to its competitor MG 3 (4,576 cars sold once morest 16,168 units, respectively).
It is expected that the vacant place in the Korean model line will be occupied by Kia Stonic. This car is built on the basis of the European Rio and is inferior to the Rio X-Line in overall dimensions. The car is offered to customers with petrol and diesel engines ranging from 84 to 120 hp.
In Russia, the production of Rio was carried out at a plant in St. Petersburg. However, it was stopped last year. Therefore, now it is quite problematic to find a once popular model from domestic dealers.
In our market, the model is offered as a sedan or as a raised hatchback (Rio X). The machines are available with a 1.4-liter 100 hp petrol engine. Also, customers are offered Rio with a 1.6-liter unit with a capacity of 123 hp. Both units can work in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission or “automatic” with the same number of steps.
