The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Alexander Syrsky, warned Russia against a new attempt to capture Kharkov, warning that this would have fatal consequences for the Russians. “Kharkov will become a fatal city for them,” he said, commenting on reports of possible preparations for an offensive by Russian troops on Kharkov.

“We cannot ignore any information about the enemy’s preparation for offensive actions, so we are taking all measures to adequately respond to such a possibility. Today we are carrying out a large complex of works on fortification equipment of territories and positions, installing a comprehensive system of barriers, and carrying out planning the use of our troops in the event of such actions,” Syrsky said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian commander-in-chief referred to the past experience of the liberation of the Kharkov region in the fall of 2022, which he commanded. “We already have experience of military operations in the Kharkov region, we managed to “calculate” the enemy and liberate a significant part of the Kharkov region. At this time, a large-scale collapse of the Russian front occurred. If the Russians go there again, Kharkov will become a fatal city for them,” Syrsky summed up .

Anticipation of a possible attack on Kharkov

The day before, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview with CBS News that in the coming months – at the end of May or June – a new major offensive by Russian troops is expected at the front. He did not specify which direction he was talking about.

Earlier, information appeared in the media that the Kremlin’s next goal in the war with Ukraine is an attack on Kharkov. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that it is necessary to create a “sanitary zone” around the Belgorod region, which borders the Kharkov region and is subject to regular shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
