The publication of photos showing a handshake between Khalifa Sall and the President of the Republic, Macky Sall, has created controversy since last Thursday.
Interviewed by PressAfrik, Moussa Taye, political adviser to the former mayor of Dakar, to clarify the situation. Mr. Taye explained that President Sall had come to attend the opening of the World Forum on the Social and Solidarity Economy and that Khalifa Ababacar Sall had been the guest of honor there as honorary mayor of Dakar. Therefore, there was nothing surprising regarding the handshake. Mr. Taye also said that members of Yewwi, the party of Khalifa Sall, would not be frustrated by this meeting between the two leaders, even if they do not want to have a relationship with President Sall.

Mr. Taye said that Barthélémy Dias, a leader of the coalition, had invited all Yewwi leaders and all mayors to the ceremony. Only Ousmane Sonko and Déthié Fall had officially declared that they would not participate in the political dialogue. Khalifa Sall, for his part, continues to maintain the vagueness as to his participation. Moussa Taye said that Taxawu Senegaal, the movement of the ex-mayor of Dakar, will consult its members before taking an official position. He also stressed that parties and movements had retained their autonomy and would decide freely on their participation.
Mr. Taye specified that the question of participation in the dialogue would be addressed to the parties and movements represented in the National Assembly. However, if the question was addressed directly to the coalition, the leader of the coalition would make a responsible decision. Mr Taye also said that each party’s position would not challenge the foundations of Yewwi’s charter and that the movement was working properly.
