Another low-profile move in the NBA. As announced by his own representation agency, Priority Sports, forward Keyontae Johnson has reached an agreement to sign for the next season with the Charlotte Hornets.
Selected 50th overall in the 2023 draft, Johnson barely played a role in the 2023-24 season, playing just 9 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 1.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.3 minutes per night. He did play more in the G League, averaging 19.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals with the Oklahoma City Blue.
As for the type of contract that the forward will have in Charlotte, it is unknown at the moment if we are talking about a standard one (they have one left to assign), a two-way contract (there is one free) or a exhibit 10 to take part in the training camp. Everything indicates that it would be one of the last two.
With the signing of Johnson, the North Carolina organization now has 18 players on its roster ahead of a offseason where it can reach a maximum of 21. As we say, it remains to be seen which players sign with the standard agreement and the two-way agreement that they maintain as free agents.
